Following his recent mini-album for
Martyn's 3024, Leon Vynehall makes his
debut on Clone's Royal Oak series with
two tracks of bright, sensuous house
music. 'Butterflies' is a truly emotive
jam, a hands-in-the-air anthem that
blends simply played piano chords with
digital instrumentation and seductive
spoken word. A lengthy breakdown cuts
away any rough edges, before kicking
back in with a pared-down groove. 'This
Is The Place' is breezier, soul samples
fed through woozy tape and accompanied
by skittish, rugged percussion and
vocals churned up by heavy reverb. More
than just simple floor fodder, this is
house music with an edge.
