Adam Wiltzie of Stars Of The Lid crosses paths with Dustin O'Halloran for a
welcome follow-up to their sumptuous debut album and single as A Winged Victory
For The Sullen, this time with a superb Ben Frost re-interpretation. 'Atomos' is
the pre-cursor to their 2nd full length album, which also doubles as a score for
choreographer Wayne McGregor's long form dance piece. Head of the Random Dance
Company and known for work on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, plus
Radiohead and Atoms For Peace music videos, McGregor was heavily influenced by
AWVFTS' debut album, and has previously worked with Ben Frost, who composed the
music for his previous piece, 'Far'. There are two original compositions,
recorded over summer of 2013 in Brussels, Berlin and Reykjavik, including the
sanguine, aerated strings of 'Atomos VII' and the delicate colouring of 'Minuet
for a Cheap Piano Number One', sharply contrasting with Ben Frost's
microscopically involved and expanded 'Greenhouse Re-Interpetation' of the
former, transformed to a strung out, visceral and buzzing inversion with a
gorgeous finale.
