some of you might know this; but plenty won't. back in the day, we
started hospital along with 2 other labels. casualty (!) was
downbeat, so much so that it only managed 2 releases. the other
was galactic disco, which for 2 years looked like it might
supercede hospital and take us down the path of deepdiscohouse
music.
just like hospital, the early releases were produced by tony &
chris under a variety of pseudonyms - future homosapiens, orkestra
galactica, funky nasa - the leading moniker being homosapiens.
their album debut 'moonrock' made mixmag's top 20 albums of the
year in 1998, and led to a bunch of remixes for folk like mr
scruff, the headhunters, and 20:20 vision. unfortunately the
marilyn manson mix was turned down (we kid you not!).
the catalogue reached number 15, by which time a young landmass
nee landslide had unveiled his futuristic breakstep, and the four
to the floor beats were getting broken up. a fine collection of
highlights was brought together to make up 'the final countdown'
cd and vinyl comp. those of you that might wish to dip your toes
into the galactic bathwater could do no better than starting with
the '..countdown' - a comprehensive guide to the galactic disco
world.
