There's always humour to be had when Satanists quote H.P.Lovecraft and
Clark Ashton Smith (of the Mythos circle of horror/fantasy writers) and
Poe to justify their own, essentially Christian, religion. Bestia
Centauri has followed the works of these writers in exploring the
unplumbed depths of time and space, but to align it with Satanism is a
new foray for the ambient project and to be truthful to the booklet's
notes it is a 'commissioned' work of sorts. To quote it's concept;
"In October 2003, an adherent of the Traditional Satanist group the Order
of Nine Angles ("ONA") contacted me via e-mail. Having seen my Web site,
and having heard my music, this individual felt that Bestia Centauri
would be well suited to creating a new version of an ONA related musical
work/dark pathworking entitled The Self-Immolation Rite (SIR)."
If you're familiar with Bestia Centauri's earlier CDR and Compilation
works this is a divergent project. It is Somnambulent's first replicated
CD release, a luxuriant package with a twelve page full-colour glossy
booklet featuring artwork of 'Spheres' of Venus, Mars, etc, luscious
planetary pooled surfaces with two pages of dense text. One from Bestia
Centauri explaining about ONA and the other an essay by the proposing
individual in question, Von Sanngetall, whose dissertation is of a
journey through the dominions of dark gods, waffle, waffle, quoting
writers of FICTION to back up his imaginary so-called FACTs.
I think Bestia Centauri sums it up well at the end of his explanation and
rather than wax a panegyric locution on the music itself.
"As a final word, I wish to make clear that, although I am a sympathetic
-- though often critical--fellow traveler, I am not an adherent of the
ONA's or any other organization's. My path is my own. Also, although I
have endeavored to re-create the SIR in the spirit of the original, I do
not feel that it is necessary for the listener to engage in the
particular journey that the SIR represents in order to appreciate or
benefit from it. Let the music lead you where it will."
