  |  The Kick is the story of Stephen Donald, the highs and lows   |
  |  of his All Black career and that kick he slotted to ensure    |
  |  New Zealand won the Rugby World Cup in 2011.                  |
  |                                                                |
  |  This is Stephen's personal story - from missing out on        |
  |  selection in the 2007 World Cup team, his non selection in    |
  |  the squad in the build up to the 2011 World Cup and his       |
  |  triumphant return.                                            |
  |  Stephen - or Beaver to his mates, after missing selection for |
  |   the 2007 RWC team, achieves his aim of becoming an All Black |
  |   in 2008 after a strong domestic season. After a few years of |
  |   playing in the shadow of Dan Carter, he gets his opportunity |
  |   in the Bledisloe Cup game against Australia in Hong Kong in  |
  |  2010. It is to be the beginning of the worst time of his      |
  |  career&                                                       |
  |                                                                |
  |  Blamed by the New Zealand public for the loss in Hong Kong    |
  |  and a victim of some hideous media attention, Stephen takes   |
  |  it all in his stride - he has the support of his family and   |
  |  community. But it still hurts - he's better than Hong Kong    |
  |  and has never had the chance to prove it.                     |
  |                                                                |
  |  Ignored by the All Black selectors for the 2011 RWC, Stephen  |
  |  makes plans to go overseas - but not until after the RWC. He  |
  |  watches with interest, the demise of Dan Carter, and the call |
  |   up of Aaron Cruden. But when Colin Slade is injured in the   |
  |  quarter final against Argentina, is it possible he will get   |
  |  the call?                                                     |
  |                                                                |
  |  Stephen goes white baiting with his mate Dougie, in their     |
  |  special spot which has no cell phone coverage. On their       |
  |  return - 9 missed calls from Graham Henry - we need you       |
  |  Beaver.                                                       |
  |  Stephen joins the All Black camp, never thinking he will play |
  |   - and then the unthinkable happens - the third first five in |
  |   the camp goes down in the final - and on runs Beaver.        |
  |                                                                |
  |  It's a tough fought match - Piri Weepu misses a kick and at   |
  |  halftime, New Zealand only lead 5-0. Graham Henry tells       |
  |  Beaver that he's kicking. A penalty early in the second half  |
  |  and Stephen Donald steps up to the tee - and kicks what was   |
  |  the winning points for New Zealand. The proudest rugby nation |
  |   in the world has won the Rugby World Cup for the first time  |
  |  in 24 years - and at the hands of their fourth choice first   |
  |  five.                                                         |
