│ Since purchasing his first 1200 in late 1999 Sam │
│ McEwin has very quickly emerged as one of Melbournes │
│ finest talents. After holding a short residency at the │
│ weekly house night Confusion and playing at odd │
│ parties around Melbourne it was in 2002 when Sam │
│ formed free party crew The Melbourne Techno Collective │
│ with close friends Peter Baker and Matt Radovich as an │
│ outlet for unknown Melbourne talent. Gaining │
│ recognition for their endless hard work and dedication │
│ to the Melbourne scene, by 2003 MTC became one of the │
│ only outlets for techno performing on a regular basis. │
│ │
│ It was also in 2003 when Sam formed a partnership with │
│ another local Dj and close friend Craig McWhinney and │
│ together, under the MTC banner started the weekly │
│ night Jack the Basics. It was at Jack the Basics where │
│ Sam was given the opportunity to display his love of │
│ house and electro, and develop and hone the softer │
│ side to his dj'ing which he has now become known for. │
│ │
│ Taking the majority of his influences from the local │
│ Melbourne scene Sam has drawn much inspiration from │
│ DJ's such as Mike Callander, Ben Cromack, Craig │
│ MCwhinney, Jay Reading, Peter Baker and Matt Radovich. │
│ However Sam has also drawn much inspiration from the │
│ sounds of international DJ's and producers such as Ben │
│ Sims, Mark Broom, Sam Geiser (Deetron), Mark │
│ Villalobos, John Tejada and Marc Leclair (Akufen). │
│ │
│ With upcoming gigs in South Australia and Sydney, as │
│ well as an appearance at the Earthcore festival and │
│ numerous other nights around Melbourne, the coming │
│ months and years are likely to become much busier for │
│ Sam McEwin as he continues to push is love of music │
│ upon eager clubbers. This mix recorded exclusively for │
│ Proton Radio is an example of the softer side of Sam │
│ McEwins style and includes tracks from Swayzak, │
│ Akufen, Jamie Anderson, Kraftwerk, Jaun Atkins, the │
│ Youngsters, Narcotic Syntax and Justus Kohncke amongst │
│ many others. │
