: Larsen & Furious Jane was formed in 2002 when Tore :
: Johansen and Torsten Larsen sat down to record some :
: songs written by the latter. What was meant to be a :
: rough presentation of 2-4 songs, eventually turned into :
: the 10 track CD-R "I Wouldn't Sit at Home and Take It" :
: released on Morningside Records in 2003. :
: Incited by the positive feedback Torsten and Tore went :
: back to Tore's living room and started recording songs :
: for a new album, this time inviting a variety of local :
: musicians to join in. As the work proceeded an actual :
: band took form and in August 2003 Larsen & Furious Jane :
: started performing live with a setup consisting of :
: Torsten Larsen, Tore Johansen, Signe Luetken, Keld :
: Joergensen, Lasse Schuleit, Mikkel Ibsen and Jesper :
: Brodersen. :

: Now this is the official debut-release "I'm Glad He's :
: Dead". :

: One can't help but awe over the seemingly infinite :
: possibilities to dig out otherwise forgotten rock :
: classics from the past. It is only limited by the free :
: flowing imagination of record label executives, and the :
: record collectors they are dependent on, and who always :
: so willingly throw themselves down for further :
: exploitation. Now those loveable chums at Morningside :
: Records have found a long lost record, which I'm quite :
: sure originally is from U.S.A., sometime in the late :
: eightes. Oddly enough they've chosen to market is a :
: brand new release from a danish band. I presume the :
: reason for that can be found several places. Firstly, :
: nobody really wants a real slice of americana from that :
: period, and here in Denmark nobody really wants :
: anything at all, unless it's danish or their distinctly :
: told to buy it. Hence the Morningside motto: Buy it - :
: it's good for you! :
: :
: There is much to be said about these songs, and how :
: many subjects they touch upon, from the spiritual :
: chorus in "I give up" to the drunken haze of "Behind". :
: The later recalling Green on Red, who in their best :
: moments shared the ability to give voice to characters, :
: who in frenzy scrape through the darkest bars across :
: the big country. By the way, that same song has me :
: wondering if there is a guest apperance from someone :
: from Camper Van Beethoven, when folk sounding strings :
: appears at the end. And it doesn't get much cooler than :
: that! There a some quite gloomy songs as well, which :
: can recall acts like American Music Club, Walkabouts :
: and a whole bunch of others, but really these songs are :
: all Larsen and his band, who accompany his fantastic :
: voice with such subtle beauty. The astonishing :
: melancholy of "The Wind in your sail is gone" and the :
: haunting short chill, that is called "Friday", is :
: placed side by side bittersweet melodic tunes like :
: "Australia" and "Our mutual Friend". I don't know if :
: it's Larsen and Furious Jane or them Morningside folks :
: that have assembled the tracklist for this release, but :
: they did a fine job. :
: :
: Well, it's going to be interesting to see how this :
: record will be recieved, especially considering the :
: special circumstances around it. But most likely, you :
: can count on it to be misunderstood, labelled wrongly :
: and connected with genre affinities not even existing :
: at the time it was made. And somehow that can't :
: surprise anyone, since the world insists on being :
: fooled. I guess it all comes down to if you are :
: prepared for it. Well... are you? :
