ASTEROID belong to the movement of Orebro's retro
readings like WITCHCRAFT, ABRAMIS BRAMA, GRAVEYARD,
HORISONT, DEAD MAN and the list seems to be endlessà
Formed in 2003, the heavy stoner Rock trio went with
the flow of its homeland musical tradition and
managed to reach the top of many listeners' hearts,
especially in Europe, because of the brilliant
heading WITCHCRAFT stroke (or NORRSKEN if you
prefer) and so many bands that followed. "Asteroid
II" is their second album and from the first
listening I have to say that it earned me and made
me stuck with this band, since it's their best so
far. "Garden" has the appropriate tripping mood to
take you away and the "play" button becomes suddenly
your savior.
The simplicity of the tracks' titles is another clue
that spreads ASTEROID's magic, except the blues-y,
hippy and doom-y riffing here and the result there
making lighter and cheery. The vocals have a decent
low-range tenor tone being retro and old-fashioned
as much as they must and combined in an excellent
way with the bass-y guitars and the bel canto of
ASTEROID's music. My favorite track is without any
doubt the melancholic "Lady", as long as you notice
the change on 02:05 and you will remember my words.
"Time", the longest track from the album, shows the
band's composition skills and creates a heavy and
dark stoner veil of smoke and dreams. Now, I can
bubble loudly how lucky I am I have an 'asteroid' in
my life!
