Track 04 Remix and Add'l Production By Lhooq
OK, so lots of people dismissed Mono as a derivative copycat of
Portishead, and while there are similarities, Life in Mono is still a
totally brilliant single. This is even clearer after listening to the
wonderful Alice Band Mix by Alex and Will Propellerhead. Stripping away
the "spy theme" feel of the original, the Alice Band mix makes a lovely
midempo groover - those vocals are all that and then some!!!
The Mr Natural mix is (and let's be frank here) just kinda weird. I like
Mr Natural's mixes, and this one does have a fun, cut-up feel to it.
Fuzz-bass silhouettes the girly vocal of "I just don't know what to do"
for a mental take on the track. The Lhooq Mix stays closer to the spy
theme of the original, but has a dancier break to it. Stick to Lhooq's
or Mr Natural's for the dancefloor, the Props' or the Original for the
bedroom.
Enjoy!
