kW has the pleasure to bring you one of the most long-awaited
albums by the undeground community in the last few years.
modaji, aka dominic jacobson, is one of the most well-known,
influent and active producers in the west london "broken beat"
scene. he finally releases his debut album, named after himself,
and it will surelly be a landmark in this ever changing scene.
his singles ('outboard jeopardy', 'starbusts over orion', 'la cosa
mas chunga' or 'aracaju') have made heavy damage in the most
open-minded european dancefloors and his remixes and reworks are
constantly present in the playlists of such cats as gilles
peterson, jazzanova, rainer truby, phil asher, and a lot others.
this album will probably disappoint many, as those won't recognise
the modaji from the past in this first set of songs.
but if you listen carefully, you'll find that the new modaji has
matured, leaving some of the old structures and formulas behind,
and has become an artist who finds his inspiration in soul music,
jazz roots, and the best broken beat songs, melting all these
elements into one great, gorgeous, creation.
this is already considered a masterpiece by many and will surelly
be one of the best albums of 2001.
note1: this is the japanese version of the album. it includes three
extra tracks (12, 13, and 14) that the european and american
version will not include when released (which will happen in early
spring this year).
