- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -
There are two types of Thee Oh Sees albums, the full band experience with a
lot of fast paced rave ups that go over well live and the more experimental
albums. This would be in the latter category. This album really is a John
Dwyer solo album as the rest of the band doesn't seem to be on this one,
similar to Castlemania. That isn't to say this album is as out there as
Castlemania, however.
This album has a bit more of a slower, sludgier (at times) and psychedelic
sound than full band albums like Floating Coffin, Carrion Crawler, Help, etc.
Penetrating Eye is a particularly excellent song, reminds me a lot of Ty
Segall. Encrypted Bounce and Drop are also good rockers. Transparent World
uses some vocal synthesizers you aren't used to hearing from this band and The
Lens sounds like late period Beatles - it's almost hard to believe Dwyer can
sing so sweetly. If you're new to the band, try out the other albums I
mentioned first but this is an interesting diversion. Hope this isn't the last
we hear from the full band. Go see them live if you haven't done so, they
really rip it up but beware the mosh pit.
