            The foremost song parodist of the MTV era, Weird Al Yankovic carried
            the torch of musical humor more proudly and more successfully than
            any performer since Allan Sherman. In the world of novelty records -
            a genre noted for its extensive back catalog of flashes-in-the-pan
            and one-hit wonders - Yankovic was king, scoring smash after smash
            over the course of an enduring career which found him topically
            mocking everything from new wave to gangsta rap...

            "Smells Like Nirvana", a parody of Nirvana song "Smells Like Teen
            Spirit", was released both as a single off Yankovic's "Off The Deep
            End" album in 1992. "Smells Like Nirvana" was written during a
            three-year career low for Yankovic after the financial failure of
            his film UHF, but captured the quickly-rising popularity of the
            grunge style and Nirvana's success. The song was written to poke fun
            at the fact that many people had a hard time understanding Nirvana
            singer Kurt Cobain's lyrics in the original song. After being unable
            to contact Nirvana by conventional means, Yankovic called Cobain
            while the band was on the set of Saturday Night Live, where Cobain
            quickly gave permission to record the parody.

            US maxi-single also including "Off The Deep End" album track 
            "Trigger Happy" (style parody of The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean),
            plus the Peter Gabriel style parody "Waffle King" (unreleased at the
            time, but was later included on 1993 LP 'Alapalooza').
