The Super Furry Animals are Gruff Rhys:
vocals/electric and acoustic guitars, Dafydd Ieuan:
drums/vocals/percussion, Cian Ciaran:
Rhodes/piano/electronics/vocals, Guto Pryce: bass/sub
bass and Huw Bunford: electric guitar, vocals SFA
formed in Cardiff after being in various other Welsh
bands and techno outfits in the area (Dafyyd, Gruff
and Guto had been together since the early 90s and
had toured the north coast of France as a techno
group). They then got to work on writing some songs,
and in 1995 ended up signing to Ankst, the famous
Welsh Indie label.
The name of the band came from t-shirts being printed
by Gruff's sister. She was making 'Super Furry
Animals' t-shirts for Acid Casuals (variants of which
have appeared throughout SFA's career - cf. The
Placid Casual, Placid Casuals Records, etc.). They
have released a whopping 9 albums in their 10 year +
career, the newest being song Book Vol. 1.
