│║ The debut from Exodia missed my queue back in ║ │
│║ 2012, but rumblings in some of the circles I ║ │
│║ frequent seemed to have good things to say about ║ │
│║ the Spanish thrashers. When the opportunity came ║ │
│║ up to review their sophomore effort, entitled ║ │
│║ Hellbringer, I was willing to leap on board. ║ │
│║ 2014 has proven to be the year of the sophomore ║ │
│║ release thus far, but I still went into this ║ │
│║ record hesitant. Luckily, Hellbringer brings the ║ │
│║ hellàhellishly fun thrash that is and the high- ║ │
│║ speed chaos thatÆs balled up on ten tracks is ║ │
│║ pretty infectious. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Exodia Logo ║ │
│║ Exodia definitely have some talent to bring to ║ │
│║ the table. The band pummels through this second ║ │
│║ effort with relative ease, combining old school ║ │
│║ Bay Area melody with the more chaotic tendencies ║ │
│║ of modern Destruction. The riffs are layered ║ │
│║ four feet deep, the heavier thrash shouting adds ║ │
│║ some energetic outpour, and the relentless ║ │
│║ drumming keep the band bashing forward with ║ │
│║ delightful intensity. Songs like ôWicked Seedö ║ │
│║ and ô150% Attitudeö give listeners a strong ║ │
│║ indication at the ludicrously fast and technical ║ │
│║ abilities of the band and it streamlines what ║ │
│║ Exodia can really accomplish. The true highlight ║ │
│║ of Hellbringer though is the massively ║ │
│║ impressive lead guitar work. From start to ║ │
│║ finish, every time the clean melodic guitar ║ │
│║ layers came out I was hooked. The solos are ║ │
│║ aptly memorable and feisty. For every song the ║ │
│║ lead guitar erupts as a highlight. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The cover artwork, logo, and layered high speed ║ │
│║ neck snapping thrash writing might indicate some ║ │
│║ retro-inspired moshing, but itÆs not all just ║ │
│║ high speed onslaughts. The band has a nice ║ │
│║ tendency to drop some modernity into the mix. ║ │
│║ ôShout the Nationsö features a bitchinÆ chunk ║ │
│║ riff that borderlines on breakdown and ║ │
│║ ôAnestheticsö starts off with a sternum rumbling ║ │
│║ bass line to get the song moving before ║ │
│║ cascading into a sing-a-long melodic chorus. ║ │
│║ Hellbringer does an admirable job of keeping ║ │
│║ things diversified for a thrash record with ║ │
│║ melodies and rhythms like the mid tempo snarling ║ │
│║ ôFuture Generations.ö Sure, some of the songs ║ │
│║ tend to be a little long for their own good, a ║ │
│║ five minute track like ôInfected Hateö that ║ │
│║ works at that pacing tends to wear a little ║ │
│║ thin, but I am very impressed with the bandÆs ║ │
│║ ability to move between old school and new ║ │
│║ school. ║ │

│║ Hellbringer is not a perfect record, many tracks ║ │
│║ are drawn out a bit much, but the resulting ║ │
│║ sophomore effort from Exodia is overly ║ │
│║ impressive. ItÆs an old school thrasher with a ║ │
│║ clean enough production and enough modernity in ║ │
│║ writing to feel fresh while the technical ║ │
│║ abilities of all the members really pushes the ║ │
│║ musical content to a nice high level. Exodia ║ │
│║ have made a big fan out of this reviewer with ║ │
│║ this record. ║ │
