     Unutterably wondrous wibbly noises from Riz Maslen, a woman with
     more imagination contained in her navel lint than many technogeeks
     have in their entire extended family. Like fellow electronic
     adventurers Luke Vibert, Global Communications and the Aphex Twin,
     Maslen sought solace in sound after life in England's West Country
     grew too dull, building herself a basic home studio in the early
     '90s, learning her trade and then kicking fledgling experimental
     EPs from the nest every few months since to see if they'd fly. Last
     year's Tumbleweed EP and her first LP (recorded under the name
     Small Fish With Spine and snuck out quietly on American label
     Oxygen Music Works) wandered the largely unexplored back alleys
     where moody Eno-esque aimlessness shares cheap cider with
     dipsomaniac drum machines and burping, bleeping, farting and grumpy
     synths just off the plane from Berlin. Magnification is no less
     strange and experimental but makes more concessions to beauty than
     its predecessors. Background music for foreground people.
