asian djs,producers and rappers were the pioneers of
the "new asian dance".their sound was a fusion of indian
classical as well as soundtrack music with digital breaks
and beats.london as a melting pot with its diversity of
cultural influences provided the right conditions for this
scene.bhangra,the traditional music from the punjab region
in the north of india,has been mixed with british club styles
since the '80s.
ragga was mixed with indian rags,funky sitars met tabla &
bass.the audience was charmed by sounds they had never
listened to before.suddenly,being asian was cool in british
popular culture.
today,it is a worlwide movement with clubnights held in san
francisco,new york,rome,london,berlin,vienna and frankfurt.
