       ██▓    ░   Born November 24, 1974 in Port of Spain Trinidad,
       ██▓    ░   Machel Montano was destined to be great. Through
       ██▓    ░   his ever-evolving musical offerings, Machel works
       ██▓    ░   on his mission of depositing soca into the domain
       ██▓    ░   of mainstream music. MachelÆs career began in 1982
       ██▓    ░   at age seven; and by age nine he had formed his
       ██▓    ░   band, Pranasonic Express. MontanoÆs debut album,
       ██▓    ░   ôToo Young To Socaö, released in 1985, was an
       ██▓    ░   instant hit, which earned rave reviews and standing
       ██▓    ░   ovations at live performances. In April of 1986,
       ██▓    ░   the young performer appeared on the popular
       ██▓    ░   television show, Star Search, bringing soca music
       ██▓    ░   to US national television. The following year,
       ██▓    ░   Machel took 2nd place in the Trinidad & Tobago
       ██▓    ░   National Song Writer's Festival with his song,
       ██▓    ░   ôDream Girl.ö In 1987, at the age of 12, he was the
       ██▓    ░   winner of the Caribbean Song Festival held in
       ██▓    ░   Barbados; he was the first Trinidadian and youngest
       ██▓    ░   to ever win this prestigious contest.

       ██▓    ░   Montana's talent has been obvious since childhood.
       ██▓    ░   Impressing his parents with his singing with the
       ██▓    ░   accompaniment of his brother on guitar, he was sent
       ██▓    ░   for vocal lessons. At the age of nine, he was
       ██▓    ░   chosen to represent the music school at the Junior
       ██▓    ░   Calypso Monarch Contest. Forming his band,
       ██▓    ░   Pranasonic Express, later renamed Xtatik, in 1984,
       ██▓    ░   he released his debut album, Too Young To Soca, two
       ██▓    ░   years later. He was heard by North American
       ██▓    ░   audiences for the first time when he performed the
       ██▓    ░   title track on television show, Star Search in
       ██▓    ░   1987. Montano's hits include "Take Me Back," "By
       ██▓    ░   All Means," "Take Ah Borrow," "Music Farm," "Big
       ██▓    ░   Truck," "Footsteps," and "Toro Toro." His album
       ██▓    ░   Outa Space (UFOs) featured the vocals of Jamaican
       ██▓    ░   vocalist Beenie Man.
