"Take to the Sky" is the first release from Henia, a label set up
around the hotbed of talent based in Norway's capital city Oslo.
Alongside Olav Brekke Mathisen, Henia will feature Norwegian stars
like Kyd & Kango (whose twelves for Estereo have found there way into
major league djs around the world), Those Norwegians (already winners
of a Norwegian Grammy for their Paper album "Kaminsky Park") and Rune
Lindbaek (whose "Sondtag" album on Repap is currently causing quite a
stir with the UK style press). In addition to these established
figures, Henia will also be a home to some of Oslo's freshest faces
including Moolah, Jonas Raabe and Hans & Asmund.
Olav Brekke Mathisen is a 24 year old dj/producer from Oslo. In
addition to his work with Henia, he currently records for the Idjut
Boys Discfunction imprint. His style is similar to that of Moodymann
or Pepe Bradock.
"Take to the sky (Original Mix)" kicks things off with a laid back,
disco-influenced groove that's not unlike the early material on KDJ.
Funky percussion, wandering bass and smooth Rhodes pave the way for
some subtle soul vocals and floating flute touches. A perfect record
for warming up - or winding down - the party. Kyd & Kango provide a
more club-friendly mix on the flipside. Their tough percussive style
takes the cut to a more energetic level while still maintaining the
heart-melting mood of the original.
