│║ Hailing from Austria, Liquid Steel was born as a ║ │
│║ cover band playing Eighties heavy metal. With ║ │
│║ roots and influences deep into Iron Maiden, ║ │
│║ Judas Priest, Saxon, Diamond Head, and most ║ │
│║ anything NWoBHM related the band got to writing ║ │
│║ original material. After an EP, the band gives ║ │
│║ us their full-length debut, Fire In The Sky. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ To say that this band and this album hearken ║ │
│║ back to the glory days of traditional heavy ║ │
│║ metal is no exaggeration, nor an understatement. ║ │
│║ Liquid Steel essentially nails the genre with ║ │
│║ skill and enthusiasm. From the pitched, ║ │
│║ sometimes screamo vocals, to the twin guitar ║ │
│║ harmonies and leads they get the trademarks of ║ │
│║ this classic form of metal. They add an ║ │
│║ impressive sturdy rhythm section with some very ║ │
│║ articulate drums, and then they wrap everything ║ │
│║ up in solid melodies. This is how the classic ║ │
│║ heavy metal sound is done. Simple. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Most songs collect around a mid-tempo to brisk ║ │
│║ pace like Samurai, Scream in the Night, or ║ │
│║ Liquid Steel. But then there's Speed Demon ║ │
│║ which, like the name implies, is fierce speed ║ │
│║ metal. Oceans, a very good instrumental, varies ║ │
│║ the pace throughout, but mostly demonstrates the ║ │
│║ strength of the band's composition and ║ │
│║ musicianship. The guitar lines are quite sharp ║ │
│║ and engaging. King of Avalon, the longest track, ║ │
│║ goes for the quintessential metal opus with a ║ │
│║ steady development and lots of stinging guitars. ║ │
│║ Also, throughout the vocal arrangements are ║ │
│║ quite pleasing, clean and harmonies, with a few ║ │
│║ ear-splitting screams tossed. All in all, for ║ │
│║ classic heavy metal in the New Wave of British ║ │
│║ Heavy Metal tradition Liquid Steel is the real ║ │
│║ deal. If you love the genre, then Fire In The ║ │
│║ Sky should be on your short list for purchase. ║ │
