Philadelphia native Gair Marking breaks well
accepted, nearly instinctive rhythmic divisions with
his latest untitled 7-inch single on Sonicterror.
Opening with a simple, rough pattern of drunken beats
that seems regular at first, but never falls into a
stable rut. ôEllipsisö is chaotic and vague. In much
the same way, ôViscousityö tries the same using less
sound, but is much more obvious in its arrhythmic
qualities, as is ôBrakin.ö Nonetheless, MarkingÆs
experimental sound takes the lyrical, fluid,
dexterous qualities of modern hip hop and turns them
into an open-ended , DSP charged challenge.
