We've been waiting for this one - ever since Kode 9
and Daddi gee decimated us with their Prince Rogers
Nelson rip up on the debut Hyperdub plate - 'Sign Of
The Dub'. The almost unbearable claustrophobia, the
dark sense of paranoia, the suffocating atmosphere
all represented the cutting edge of the Dubstep
movement, taking a genius side-swerve into uncharted
abstract territory. Where recent Grime collections
have focussed on a decidedly middle range bassline
style, Hyperdub have evidently soaked up years of
history in front and behind the biggest speaker bins
known to man. Where 'Sign' found no reason to mess
with any beats, 'Spit' comes fully correct - Gee
going at public enemyÆs æwelcome to the terrordromeÆ
in finest Ja improv style, all fronting Kode 9Æs
assassin deadly, haunted ska-infected dub garage.
Totally fresh once again, this is pressure taken to
seismic atmospheric proportions - the chunky
handclaps and version fx on the dub raising this as
another, apparently unmatchable high point in a
burgeoning scene. Invest now before this starts to
fetch stupid money in a year or so. B-A-S-S!!
