boomkat:
Once in a very long while, amongst all the reissues
which week in, week out fill up release sheets,
emerges a record salvaged from history, which
instantly sounds more futuristic than just about
anything new coming out. This is one of those, once
in a decade moments - when the Studio one funk
compilation landed a couple weeks back, the office
was enthralled by a dose of organ and drum machine
infused, bassline dub-funk by The Sharks. This is
really amazing stuff, laced with a late seventies
early eighties electronic influence, a past and
future classic which has seemingly slipped through
every collectors' net, until now. Of course, we're
delighted that soul jazz have done the right thing -
pressing up this fiercely limited, super loud 12"
version. Imagine a dub version of the unmatchable
atmosphere created in Sly's Riot Goin on prime
period, and we're still nowhere near. Only the Jb's
inflected 'Greedy G' comes close, and as any
self-respecting breaks' digga will tell you, its
desperately hard, in fact nigh impossible to find
that on twelve. So be fully aware, this is no casual
rare groove, this is the real deal - we'd even dare
to say buy two, as we're pretty confident you're
gonna wear this bad bwoy out. Highest grade
recommendation - get in early!
