| X | "Hard Food", the first album released by his Dub Syndicate since | X |
| X | "No Bed of Roses" in 2004, had just been completed. Dub | X |
| X | Syndicate's first studio album for eleven years, an event that was | X |
| X | to be a joyous celebration with friends, has now become Style | X |
| X | Scott's legacy. | X |

| X | Born on 19 April in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, from the end | X |
| X | of the 1970s on Style Scott emerged as one of the most high- | X |
| X | profile and style-defining drummers of his time. Together with | X |
| X | Errol "Flabba" Holt he formed the rhythmic backbone of Roots | X |
| X | Radics, whose riddim songs, including John Holt's "Police in | X |
| X | Helicopter" and Gregory Isaacsæ "Night Nurse", attained the status | X |
| X | of classics. Style Scott launched a parallel career in England at | X |
| X | the beginning of the 80s as the drummer in Adrian Sherwood's | X |
| X | innovative dub studio / laboratory On-U Sound, where his | X |
| X | incomparable drumming set the stage for songs by Prince Far-I, | X |
| X | Creation Rebel and Singers & Players. | X |

| X | Alongside all these projects, Style's very own baby was Dub | X |
| X | Syndicate, his "British Roots Radics" with whom he recorded more | X |
| X | than 20 albums between 1982 and the present. In this project, | X |
| X | Style's riddims fused with On-U-Sound's signature style and the | X |
| X | music and vocals of African Headcharge, Akabu, Mikey Dread and Jeb | X |
| X | Loy Nichols. With Adrian Sherwood as the mix master and - who else | X |
| X | - "Flabba" Holt on bass, Dub Syndicate explored abstract dub | X |
| X | spaces ("Pounding System") and lush psychedelic landscapes | X |
| X | ("Echomania"), teamed up with the poetry of the arch dub dadaist | X |
| X | Lee "Scratch" Perry ("Time Boom X Devil Dead"), with Dr. Pablo and | X |
| X | his melodica ("North of River Thames") and brought rewinds to the | X |
| X | dancehall with Capleton ("Time", the big tune from "Ital | X |

| X | It became a tradition for Style Scott to record the riddims in | X |
| X | Jamaica with Flabba Holt and then add overdubs and mix the tracks | X |
| X | in London with Adrian Sherwood. And that is precisely how the | X |
| X | present album, which has tragically become his farewell, was | X |
| X | recorded: Lee Perry mumbles his unmistakable incantations on "Jah | X |
| X | Wise" in a dialogue with Sangie from the Wailers's circle. Other | X |
| X | vocal highlights include Style's old brother-in-arms, Bunny Wailer | X |
| X | ("Bless My Soul") and DJ legend U-Roy, who over Style and Flabba's | X |
| X | legendary "Police in Helicopter" riddim admits "Dub Is All I Got". | X |
| X | And then there's Magma, who impishly warns the ladies "Love Is | X |
| X | Coming At You". The instrumentals on "Hard Food" are equally | X |
| X | delectable: in the opening track "Sound Collision" weird synth | X |
| X | sounds and ricocheting echoes literally collide with Dub | X |
| X | Syndicate's trademark sound; "Gypsy Magic" is characterised by the | X |
| X | sound of a violin, Ivan "Celloman" Hussey's riff drives the | X |
| X | equally melodious "Addis Ababa" and the album closes with three | X |
| X | instrumental versions from Adrian Sherwood's studio, which | X |
| X | supplied all the dubs and overdubs. | X |

| X | With Style Scott the reggae world, and indeed the entire world, | X |
| X | has lost one of its best drummers. As "No Bed of Roses" and the | X |
| X | album title "Hard Food" indicates, life wasn't always easy for | X |
| X | Style Scott. His unexpected, tragic death is devastating for his | X |
| X | friends and family, to whom we express our deepest sympathy. At | X |
| X | the same time, Style's music - both sounds and lyrics - reveal | X |
| X | that his life was rich in warmth and harmony. His death has made | X |
| X | our lives poorer. | X |
