█ Lo-fi mix of black metal and noise from SF, Ca, █
            █ USA. █
            █ █
█ IÆm reviewing the original version of æGo To █
█ HellÆ, as opposed to the re-released version, █
█ which I hear was remastered? Considering this is a █
█ band which sound like your typical bedroom black █
█ metal act, then I highly doubt it was remastered, █
█ but just re-released on a wider scale with two █
█ previously unheard bonus tracks, both of which I █
█ have not heard myself. I wanted to do this album █
█ despite the fact that IÆve not heard the █
█ re-released version to compare it with because █
█ this album, entitled æGo To HellÆ, has inspired █
█ such hatred in me. I read a brief description of █
            █ the debut full-length somewhere online, I forget █
█ precisely where, and they called it ôthe best █
█ bedroom black metal album everö. Does such a thing █
█ even exist? Bedroom black metal is notoriously █
█ shit. When the term comes to mind, I think of █
█ bands like Happy Days, who I do think get more █
█ stick than everyone else, perhaps unfairly because █
█ there are so many of these types around with their █
█ ôtrueö raw sounds and idolisation of the second █
█ wave. There is more to this band than simply █
█ taking what the second wave did and reproducing █
█ it, but beyond that, there is little on offer. █
█ Even when the second wave were producing lo-fi █
█ affairs, there was still some semblance of quality █
█ to the songs, be it in the way the songs were █
█ constructed, or in the guitars. Amocoma, a band █
█ formed by members, or perhaps one solitary member █
█ of the American band Horn of Dagoth, are without █
█ any quality. Across the board, whether youÆre █
█ thinking of the guitars, the awful drums, or the █
█ static-esque vocals, there is absolutely no █
█ quality to be found anywhere on this ridiculously █
█ primitive record. The song writing is very █
█ simplistic and the atmosphere negates any quality. █
█ The simplicity of the project isnÆt really an █
█ issue in itself, but when the simplicity doesnÆt █
█ supply any memorable melodies, or a vocal display █
█ that draws everything together then simplicity █
█ does become a problem because there is no █
█ variation, or experimentation to rely on. Unless █
█ you want to include the cleaner side to æWe Are █
█ Born SilentÆ, which has the feeling of an █
█ instrumental, an interlude between the regulated █
█ songs. Of course, it does eventually forget where █
█ it was going with the smoother style and go back █
█ to where it came from by supplying those thudding █
█ drums and awful distant vocals. █
█ The musicianship and craftsmanship is poor. æThese █
█ Are Your Choicesà DarknessÆ is a great example of █
█ the ineffective drumming, which pounds on in the █
█ background given the only thing it seems capable █
█ of doing is providing underlying blast beats. They █
█ themselves sound cheap and stale. The production █
█ is third rate and, as I mentioned before, gives █
█ the vocals a static based sound which even █
█ overrides the guitar distortion and the drums can █
█ become almost unnoticeable for long periods at a █
█ time before you set your mind to finding it in the █
█ dense atmospherics. Then you realise that, hold █
█ on, the drums havenÆt changed their approach at █
█ all. Double bass, double bass, double bass. ThatÆs █
█ all you get from the drums and itÆs completely █
█ worthless. Generally, when using this much double █
█ bass, the drums sound punctuating and penetrative, █
█ but not here, TheyÆre fragile and timid and the █
█ constant thumping serves to annoy, not inspire. █
█ IÆm tempted to think this is a joke band, rather █
█ than a serious attempt at black metal. Even the █
█ acoustics and cleaner aspects of songs like æWe █
█ Are Born SilentÆ donÆt transform my opinion at █
█ all. ItÆs a shame the band didnÆt take note of █
█ their song titles and stayed silent, the album █
█ would have been more productive if it had no noise █
█ than in its current form and even though there is █
█ a possibility of the material having been █
█ remastered, the quality of the album will not be █
█ raised by an improved production because there is █
█ no quality! Instead of working on the secondary █
█ production, work on the song writing and the lack █
█ of depth to the songs. The album needed to be █
█ scrapped instead of re-mastered. This album must █
█ be burned from existence and the sooner the better █
█ as there is no quality to this piece whatsoever. █
█ Bass, what bass? Lo-fi production with no clarity. █
█ No direction. Awful vocals. Bedroom band █
            █ atmosphere. Distasteful. █
