│║ Description : ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Since his career began as the 18-year old singer ║ │
│║ of Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force in 1984, Jeff ║ │
│║ Scott Soto has built quite a name for himself in ║ │
│║ the rock world through many acts and projects. ║ │
│║ Personally I admire(d) him most as frontman of ║ │
│║ Talisman and more recently W.E.T. and I would ║ │
│║ like to add some of his solo albums as absolute ║ │
│║ favourites of mine, such as "Prism" (2002) and ║ │
│║ "Lost In The Translation" (2004). ║ │
│║ Intentionally released on January 30 (Feb. 2 in ║ │
│║ Belgium), the birthday of Marcel Jacob (his ║ │
│║ former buddy in Talisman, who sadly committed ║ │
│║ suicide in 2009) comes this debut album of Soto, ║ │
│║ called "Inside The Vertigo". Containing twelve ║ │
│║ tracks, all of them being co-writings between ║ │
│║ JSS, two of his bandmates (Edu Cominato and ║ │
│║ Jorge Salan) and/or friends, the album was ║ │
│║ (already) recorded during the latter months of ║ │
│║ 2013. Why it took over a year to actually ║ │
│║ release it, goes beyond me, but one thing is for ║ │
│║ sure: me as well as a lot of you won't have ║ │
│║ expected such a raw, contemporary sounding metal ║ │
│║ album from Jeff, who explains: "I've been in the ║ │
│║ game for a long time, but my roots started more ║ │
│║ on the heavier side of the tracks. I thought it ║ │
│║ was about time I came home to visit the family ║ │
│║ and stick around for a while." Of course he has ║ │
│║ the right to do so, but I don't think his many ║ │
│║ fans would cheer for doing so. And Jeff adds: ║ │
│║ "The past years have propelled me a plethora of ║ │
│║ anger and frustration, I'm actually quite pissed ║ │
│║ off about a lot of things and Soto is my outlet ║ │
│║ to release some of this pent-up emotion." The ║ │
│║ majority of the songs are vehicles for that ║ │
│║ bottled up grief, in which Jeff isn't afraid to ║ │
│║ scream. Believe me, this stuff is far away from ║ │
│║ what he brought with Talisman or more recently ║ │
│║ with W.E.T. Three rays of hope however are the ║ │
│║ wonderful track "End Of Days" (co-written by ║ │
│║ Connor Engstrom and featuring Grace McMahon, ║ │
│║ Ashleigh Soto and Samantha Soto as a kids ║ │
│║ choir), "When I'm Older" and "Jealousy". But ║ │
│║ three tracks out of twelve is far too less to ║ │
│║ make an impact, which really is a pity. Sorry ║ │
│║ Jeff, but to use the words of the X-Factor ║ │
│║ judges/coaches: it's a no for me. I prefer the ║ │
│║ 'old' JSS anytime ║ │
