after a seemingly incongruous past that dished up weirdo
intellectronica, hard/cold house, and deeply textured post-trip-hop
in equal but separate doses, parker's debut album pushes her right
to the forefront of futuristic funk by combining all those
disparate elements in an astoundingly impressive brew.
fully ingrained within the mo' wax aesthetic -- namely lush
arrangements accenting gloriously phat beats -- but thoroughly
influenced by parker's sense of thudding morbidity, kiss my arp
never works itself up past a slow burn. but with tracks like the
beautifully terrifying "breaking tbe code" and the slo-mo jungle of
"going nowhere," it seems that parker is fully capable of getting
her point across without frenetic breakbeats.
