FinlandÆs JumalhΣmΣrΣ follow-up their mildly received 2013 full-length
Resitaali with a brand new one-song EP for 2014 titled Songless Shores.
While similar in random thematics and audio quality, ôSongless Shoresö
takes the raw approach in an interesting direction. The traditional rich
static on the guitars slightly buried crisp raspy vocals are here, but the
drums sound like some late generation cassette bootleg, sounding like
ranged pulses or distant striking of metal to create hypnotic patterns with
off-tempo beats at times. This largely makes up the first third of the
song, while the rest is a mixture of Experimental Black Metal with droning
Ambience that fills the gap before Noise-style drums with a louder volume
and effect create a trudging march of slavery against growing depressive
thematic organs and harmonized chanting. Despite the extensive middle
piece, Songless Shores is an interesting piece that feels more exploratory
and personal, though one that you will need to develop a taste for.
