bilal has been a buzz word of many urban r&b fanatics ever since
his debut to the scene on common's "like water for chocolate" and
guru's "jazzmatazz: street soul". both of these collaborations
were only a taste of philadelphia's latest soul man until his
first release on interscope, "1st born second", hit the streets.
with lending hands from his new family, the soulquarians (who
consist of names like jaydee, ahmir '?uestlove' thompson, common,
etc.), bilal's first album easily won the hearts of true music
lovers with his soulful, well-ranged voice and his organic
production reminiscent of early 70s soul.
interscope released this very limited promotional item including
some selected instrumentals from the album as well as a special
interview. this interviewed was hosted by gilles peterson of
worldwide/talkin' loud fame who was bilal's #1 uk supporter and
was graced by this special rare opportunity direct on bbc radio
1's worldwide radio programme. in the interview, bilal recorded
two special acoustic versions of 'soul sista' and 'sometimes'
which are only available on this interview and disc.
