Over 400 years ago, the last king was slain, signalling the
end of an era when angels walked among mortals and men
ruled from a palace. The lands fell to disorder and
lawlessness. Great cities crumbled. Believing the Angelkind
have abandoned them, the people fled to smaller
settlements, banding together to survive the chaos.
Now bandits stalk the roads and wild animals infest the
fields. The only safety can be found in fortified, isolated
villages. In the struggle for survival, relations between
the different sentient races have always been fragile. At
times, mistrust and conflict have even erupted into
full-blown wars.
Striving to keep the people together is the Holy Order of
Atonement, but even their influence is limited to a handful
of settlements. And to top it all off, many believe the
legend of a "Vindicator" who would someday walk the land as
a punisher of all sins and unleash a swift end upon the world.
That day has come.
