Kenny Burrell has never encountered a musical situation in which
he did not excel. This overview of his years as a Prestige
recording artist confirms the guitarist's range and consistent
inventiveness in the company of several old friends from his
native Detroit, most prominently Donald Byrd and Tommy Flanagan;
a parade of talented non-Motown contemporaries, including John
Coltrane, Frank Foster, Brother Jack McDuff, and Hank Mobley;
and the venerable saxophone patriarch Coleman Hawkins. Whether
