│║ power metal at times, yet remains grounded in ║ │

│║ The band does pick the tempo up at times for ║ │
│║ tracks such as the rapid paced ôBlinded Eyesö ║ │
│║ and the thrusting ôEvil Within Usö, which are ║ │
│║ songs that are delivered with a pace quite ║ │
│║ reminiscent of German power metal and of course, ║ │
│║ the highly influential Helloween in specific. ║ │

│║ Production-wise, this record reaches for the ║ │
│║ same sound captured on the early Rising Force ║ │
│║ releases in terms of tone and overall ambience. ║ │
│║ ôWorld Of Unbeliversö, the leadoff track, could ║ │
│║ be compared to MalmsteenÆs work in particular, ║ │
│║ albeit without the incessant soloing. Pete ║ │
│║ Ahonen, who handles the vocal and six string ║ │
│║ duties for the group possesses a baritone voice ║ │
│║ that cuts through the mix with an engaging ║ │
│║ forcefulness. ║ │

│║ ôDown In Flamesö finds the group sticking to a ║ │
│║ decidedly traditional approach, its 4/4 backbeat ║ │
│║ providing ample support for the chugging ║ │
│║ guitars. Ahonen opts for hooky choruses that for ║ │
│║ the most part are memorable and well executed. ║ │
│║ With ôDreamworldö, youÆll find an excellent ║ │
│║ power ballad that is issued with harmonious ║ │
│║ conviction. ║ │

│║ The songs of "Haunting Remains" are arranged in ║ │
│║ a manner which is quite enjoyable, as the group ║ │
│║ have mixed these thirteen tracks of varied ║ │
│║ tempos so that the album remains interesting ║ │
│║ throughout the album. Although Ghost Machinery ║ │
│║ are not the all out power metal onslaught that ║ │
│║ one might expect, the band is quite capable at ║ │
│║ delivering music that is based in traditional ║ │
│║ metal bearing classical overtones with a air of ║ │
│║ grace which many bands seem to miss. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ All in all, ôHaunting Remainsö is a good listen ║ │
│║ that has enough variety to keep you coming back ║ │
│║ for more is definitely a worthy outing from this ║ │
│║ skilled Finnish trio that devotees of the style ║ │
│║ will undoubtedly appreciate. ║ │
