Tibetan Bowls / Overtone Music: The opening sounds are
from the crystal clear resonance of Tibetan bowls, and
the magic inherent in these sounds can be felt
immediately. These bowls provide vital sound energy and
are tuned to our natural physical frequencies. In the
hands of Vlasta Marek, a Zen teacher and sound
therapist, journalist and lecturer since the 1970's in
Prague, the sounds come to life through a technique he
calls "sound bathing," opening up new notions of time
and space. Marek constructs real and unreal domes of
overtones, using not only Tibetan bowls but also steel
drums, bird sounds and tamboura. Some additional cello
rounds out the sound, which forms spatial sound
environments for meditation and counterpoint
frequencies from using bowls with different tones and
vibrations. This is soothing music for the body, not
overly ethereal, but with multi-level uses and a
variety of ways to shape and color the sounds.
