│ Its not often that this website strays off the punk/rock & metal review │
│ path and generally when it does its because I have found out a new │
│ iamamiwhoami album is out!! However there was no way I was passing up │
│ an opportunity to review the new LP by solo multi-instrumentalist, │
│ GosT, called BehemothàI mean when you describe yourself as ôpart │
│ slasher film, part monster movie, part late-night danceclub desperation │
│ û with equal amounts of influence from 1980s horror films, 1990s black │
│ metal, and a touch of 2000s club electroö how do I not go and review │
│ it? . │
│ │
│ Self-dubbed as slasherwave, this retro electronic instrumental outfit │
│ have their roots in some of the greatest horror stylingÆs of the │
│ 1980Æsàthink John Carpenter meets Goblin with a whiff of the Drive │
│ soundtrack meets the club grooves of Justice or Daft Punk!! And that │
│ description doesnÆt do credit to the excellent song writing and layers │
│ built up on this LP. │
│ │
│ From the very start I have to say that tracks like Nightcrawler really │
│ cement exactly what GosT is all about!! Juxtaposing pounding electronic │
│ beats and 80Æs era synth sounds, itÆs like a twisted slice of John │
│ CarpenterÆs mind from circa Escape from New York. │
│ │
│ For those that like it a bit more upclose and in your face, Master │
│ delivers Justice sounding hooks and grooves with an almost Psycho-esque │
│ synth stab and then you get sections that are like the Daft Punk Tron │
│ soundtrack, did I tell you how much I love this release yet? │
│ │
│ Without a Trace, the only track featuring vocals, has a very weird │
│ combination of the Drive soundtrack and Juno from the Maniac remake │
│ soundtrack going on. It is a sharp stand out on the LP and breaks up │
│ the music nicely. │
│ │
│ I am not going to do one of those track-by-track reviews as I genuinely │
│ think that for all my comparing and comparisons to other acts and │
│ artists, GosT are something very unique and hugely endearing. It has a │
│ re-listen quality that is crazy and I have already ploughed through │
│ this release about 20 times in the last week. │
│ │
│ I canÆt recommend it enough, you need to buy this release and make it │
│ part of you nighttime listening, your lunchtime jog, your morning │
│ workout or even those moments when you feel the need for inspiration. │
│ This LP kicks ass!! │
