I didn't really get the whole Fog thing until I watched Cast Away
with Tom Hanks, then saw all the kids wearing mesh hats in NY (soon
to be everywhere!), then watched these 2 soft, short, round people
grinding away like chipmunks on the dancefloor at Ludlow. Now as I
listen to the second single from the self titled album, I truly
umbilicle with "Check Fraud (non-album version)," even though it has
nothing to do with me. Listen closely to the components of the track
as it builds dirty sample on top of dirty sample. The guitar is
especially haunting. By the time the vocals (which are added on this
non-lp version) hit, it's a cinematic experience at your local
stadium seating cineplex that serves chicken fingers and assorted
melted cheese combinations. B-side features the ingenius call on
Ninja's part, by enlisting Kid Koala for the remix. Koala takes the
same guitar sample, adds a beep and draws a story using the best that
Montreal's dialogue bins has to offer. And keeping to the format of
the original, he introduces drums in the end quarter of the song,
this time skratched. Also features the non-album tracks "High Mummy
Road Movie" and "Prancing Around Like A Fuck."
