█ Skygge returns with the follow-up to the bone █
█ crushing Knokkelkraft. Since then, Daublodir has █
█ left the band, and Adramelech (Svarthaueg, █
█ x-D°dsfall, x-Astaroth) has been brought in to do █
█ the vocals. Skyggemester Kuldegys handles █
█ everything else this time around. █
█ And right off the bat on the album opener û the █
█ title track ôAntiqua Ignisö û it becomes quite █
█ clear that Skyggemester Kuldegys has gone in a bit █
█ different direction this time. The music is not as █
█ intense or angry and does not display the █
█ totalitarian ôfuck you allö-bitch slaps as their █
█ debut did. █
█ Exactly how they have approached these recording █
█ sessions will remain a mystery to me, but this is █
█ probably the most demonic and possessed Adramelech █
█ has ever sounded thus far. And I am questioning █
█ whether or not he can top his performance here. █
█ The shrieking û at times guttural howls û lain █
█ down over what can best be described as the evil █
█ twin of the multilayered aural hell primarily █
█ ruled over by Slagmaur. █
█ It is a multilayered, complex grand wall of sound █
█ you get here. Unlike a lot of what is happening █
█ elsewhere within the scene, this is not really █
█ meant for the mainstream ears. You have to really █
█ appreciate uglyness, destruction and the total █
█ decomposition of man to really enjoy this dark █
█ sonic voyage. And the further you dare venture █
█ into this evil realm, the more you will begin to █
█ see what I mean when I say that this is not for █
█ everyone. █
█ The vocals have been recorded in a manner making █
█ Adramelech sound so completely spellbound and lost █
█ within his realm that I struggle to decypher most █
█ of it, which is fine by me. It just leaves more to █
█ the listener in terms of painting their own █
█ picture. █
█ ôDraconis Serpentisö is a bit slower in the █
█ beginning, with the hollow shrieks from the █
█ underworld setting the tone. But you just know it █
█ wonÆt last long before it is aural hellfire █
█ unleashed. Multilayered gutars and vocals really █
█ adds to that unsettling feeling that something is █
█ not right. And for each listen through you pick up █
█ new pieces here and there, be it the guitars or █
█ the vocal sections. What has been cleverly crafted █
█ here is an album that will keep on giving in terms █
█ of discovery and rediscovery, hearing how the █
█ various elements blend so damn well together and █
█ compliments each other. █
█ Further down the spiral we have ôNecro Attitudeö, █
█ with its necro shrieks and UGHÆs in the beginning. █
█ In my ears it has a more evident necro-black punk █
█ vibe with fast riffing and unprecedented vocals on █
█ top. Even though Adramelech is still fairly young, █
█ he might be in his prime now. █
█ Another one of my favorites on this record is the █
█ six and a half minute long ôSvarte Vingerö. With █
█ the demonic vocals on top of the music I feel █
█ almost as if IÆm attending some ancient black █
█ magic ritual, transcending through light into █
█ utter darkness. This could potentially be the █
█ ultimate ride into the darkest night, and total █
█ madness. █
█ So at the end of Antiqua Ignis û 10 tracks and █
█ almost an hour later û you may feel as though you █
█ have witnessed the rise of the dark one himself. █
█ As I loved their debut Knokkelkraft, I had rather █
█ high expectations to the follow-up. Antiqua Ignis █
█ delivers on so many levels, but fails on the one █
█ that got me instantly hooked in the beginning. █
█ There is way less of the aggression and brute █
█ force than on their debut. However, they do almost █
█ make up for it all with the soundscape created █
█ here, and the vibe given when itÆs all combined █
█ with vocals. █
█ I do believe that if you are into the likes of █
█ Slagmaur you will quite possibly enjoy this album, █
█ as it is more or less the heavier bigger brother, █
█ just less moody. █
