Atlanta-based Chris Brann has become a respected name with his
house-music moniker Wamdue Project. It may come as a surprise to
many that this success is not something he is particularly excited
about. Despite records like his UK #1 hit "King of My Castle,"
which went platinum in territories all over Europe, Brann's heart
lies elsewhere. "House music has never been my main interest, it's
more like a bi-product, it's so easily created," says Brann. "I'd
rather push the boundaries," he adds.
The beauty of P'taah is in Brann's ability to combine organic
sounds with cutting-edge studio trickery. Percussion and future
jazz breaks collide to provide the back bone of deceptively minimal
tracks. The sound of P'taah lies somewhere between early 70s Herbie
Hancock, blaxploitation soundtracks, DJ Krust, and new school jazz
funksters Jazzanova. --ubiquityrecords.com
Rippers note: the skip on track 5 at 01:40 is either intentional or on
the master, cuz we found it on 2 different disks.
