grand tourism is a hybrid of two musicians : chris canavaggio and
bob farrel, and a sound engineer : sean henry.
discovered by the public two years ago with the release of their 2
e.pÆs ("la baie du fakir" and "sexy funky"), in 2000, the
mini-album "a lÆΘcoute de tes courbes", confirms the groupÆs
texture and direction.
the track "les courants dÆair", featuring terry callier, brings a
new dimension; floating, astral pop perfume; we can also find it
on the album, le surboomer.
at the controls of the project, is chris canavaggio, guitarist in
several 80s rock combos, then studio producer. with his great
technical experience and knowledge of music history, he lets fly
influences from the rolling stones to roxy music, taking in marvin
& curtis. his guitar-playing, feared and organic, makes the grand
tourism music generous and glowing.
bob farrel, musician and pop singer during the 80s, author of
etienne dahoÆs "duel au soleil", quickly took care of studio
production.
a great traveler, fan of pink floyd and gainsbourg, fervent black
music dancer, music collector (vinyl, cd), a pronounced taste for
original 70s american movie soundtracks, a clubbing and club
culture addict; his passion is connecting the experimentation and
cross-over of grand tourism.
sean henry, a little prince of sound spotted when engineer, has
preferred after a few years, to let himself slip into the freedom
and creativity of his electronic musical adventure. strong from
his experiences, he can, with grand tourism, reach that sonorous
dimension, which has become the groupÆs trade-mark.
le surboomer, the album, made in paris, over a two year period,
has allowed the group to create its universe, shape its
surroundings, meet vocalists : terry callier, great unrecognized
american folk singer, on "les courants dÆair", ken norris,
american pop singer living in paris, lights up "act of love" and
"time for this", angie b. brings a hip hop contribution thanks to
her tone and feline phrasing on "romantic hold up"à
a soothing, stylized album, rich and varied to listen to on a
comfortable sofa or in a sports car :
with "les courants dÆair", "act of love" is the other bright pop
song of the album. "snakeplayer" proves that grand tourism manages
groove, club and rock psyche with ease.
"jim clark theorem" sends us back to fresh and powerful new-wave.
very personal tracks like "sweet sitar street" or "la guitare
enchantΘe" dispense waving pop caresses.
le surboomer, an explosive track, nods at the screen-writing
master michel audiard to describe a recurring clouseau, a
hedonistic trainspotter.
le surboomer, an electro-lounge album, to come down to or to enjoy
in company.
