Another Fine ESC Release.
This Time We Bring:
"J Walk - A Night On The Rocks"
A Night on the Rocks, Even the title reminds you of chilling
out drinking JD and ice, most of the album portrays this
laid back frame of mind. The Opening Track Tearaway is not
one of the most outstanding songs, yet it is easy and light
and definitely a track you can enjoy listening to, this is
followed by the a rather funky "Scarlet Menace" this feature
the vocals of Veba one of the many contributors to offer
their support. Another one of these contributors is Guy
Garvey who is the lead singer of Elbow, for anyone who has
heard Guys voice this may seem a rather strange combination,
dreamy atmospheric backing tracks mixed with Guy's rather
natural and gruff vocals, this leads to a lo-fi sounding
effect that adds great diversity to the album. For anyone
who has heard of J-Walk before they will definitely know the
stunning Soul Vibration, this was originally released back
in 2000 and still today sounds as fresh as ever!
The album changes mood from funky, to lo-fi then is brought
back to its disco roots on Heavens Above (featuring Sarah
Hill), The Wasp is the last track and is more of an
alternative dance track, similar to the likes of Orbital. To
round up the album, it's a refreshing serving of Northern
Soul for now, that is a breath of fresh air in todays
deflated dance scene and one of those albums that grows on
you with every listen adding more life and warmth to each
track.
