DFA lynchpin and lcd soundsystem honcho James Murphy returns
with a brand new single entitled `Movement' on November 8th
on EMI Records/DFA Records. Taken from his highly anticipated
debut album; due for a release in early 2005.
For those of you who don't know...
lcd soundsystem makes music that makes you dance, sweat,
mosh, rock, make-out, fight, cough, break-up, make-up, swoon,
fuck etc etc. Not simply "disco-punk" or "punk-disco" or
"punk-funk" as some may expect, the formula is far less
complicated: it's good music for good people in
ggeneral...the world over. Movement is indicative that there
is a whole lot more unexpected excitement to come from lcd
soundsystem in the near future.
`Movement' follows on from where his previous three (vinyl
only) singles; `Losing My Edge', `Give It Up' and `Yeah' left
off (released on DFA/output all were singles of the week in
NME and heralded elsewhere in the press the world over!!!).
Movement has also quickly become an explosive favourite in
their incendiary live sets, which have seen them lay waste to
Europe this summer with notable shows at Reading/Leeds, TDK
Cross central festival, Benicassim, Manumission Ibiza amongst
others.
lcd soundsystem also appear on the forthcoming DFA
compilation '#2', the first fruits of the labels new found
relationship with EMI Records released on November 1st.

Fortunately, for this microcosmic moment in time, we can rest
easy. 'Movement' is the sort of sh*t kicking rock n' roll
song with crushing guitars and an electronic motif that
Primal Scream occasionally deigned to make at the end of the
last century, when they were really good. As a baddass rn'r
record, the inherent sneering disdain in James Murphy's voice
is pivotal; for a man who allegedly doesn't give a sh*t about
this being cool malarky, he's certainly mightily hip.
But isn't that always the case?

Such is the length of time between releases by LCD
Soundsystem that every one feels like an event rather than
just a single release.
I think this is something to do with the fact that you never
know what you are going to get from them and each one keeps
raising the bar even higher.
'Movement' is unapologetically a very punk, electro track
that will see the dance floor turned into a heaving mass of
limbs being frantically twisted into various shapes, from the
opening punchy beat to the very last.
Album to follow in the new year and that could already be the
key release of next year.
