│ Yes, it seems I grossly underrated this EP. I had reviewed it │
│ previously saying it was nothing more than above average Pagan black │
│ metal. After reviewing it, I found myself listening to it │
│ repeatedly. Then I realized that the review I had posted did no │
│ justice to this superior piece of art. │
│ │
│ This EP exemplifies Pagan black metal at it's finest. The expertly │
│ done production makes for abundant dark and somehow distinctly Pagan │
│ atmosphere. The hiss of mighty, oftentimes somber guitars are as │
│ powerful as they are strangely soothing. The drums are not │
│ overbearing, not too fast, not too slow, thunderous and raw. The │
│ vocals are strident, like an angry spirit of the forest. Indeed, │
│ this whole album conjures up images of an otherworldly yet beautiful │
│ wooded landscape. │

│ Where I normally rate bands to some extent on things such as song │
│ writing, and musicianship, such things for this EP seem unrelated, │
│ irrelevant or at the very least, considered in an abstract sense. In │
│ fact, it feels like this review stands apart from many of my other │
│ reviews, because the rawness of the music truly reflects the rawness │
│ of the attitude. The aim of this music is different than the aim of │
│ most metal, at least, it hits the mark where most others miss. │
│ Especially black metal. Where most bands this late in black metal's │
│ lifespan seem to be searching frantically for new gimmicks, or vying │
│ to win praise as being the most evil band, Odal has simply exploited │
│ the black metal medium as an apparatus to fully express their │
│ passion, just as black metal was intended to do. │
│ │
│ In my previous review, I had stated that this album avoided the │
│ failings of most such bands, but it does much more than that. This │
│ band and this EP stand as true examples of what Pagan black metal is │
│ all about. It's mesmerizing in all it's atmosphere, emotion and │
│ passion. A true work of art. │
