│║ Witchtower naci≤ en JaΘn (Andalucφa, Espa±a) en ║ │
│║ 2012, nace como el proyecto en solitario del ║ │
│║ m·sico de heavy rock jiennense ,Vφctor de la ║ │
│║ Chica, despuΘs de estar tocando en Sombras del ║ │
│║ Destino desde 2008 y en varias bandas tributo a ║ │
│║ grupos como Iron Maiden o Ilegales. Todos los ║ │
│║ instrumentos del EP, excepto la baterφa, estßn ║ │
│║ grabados por Θl mismo aunque cuenta con unos ║ │
│║ grandes m·sicos con los que pegarle fuego a ║ │
│║ cualquier local del paφs. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Esta banda toca un heavy metal que estß ║ │
│║ clarφsimamente orientado a la New Wave Of ║ │
│║ British Heavy Metal, de hecho este trabajo suena ║ │
│║ como si se hubiera grabado en Inglaterra a ║ │
│║ finales de los a±os æ70. Me pregunto que hubiera ║ │
│║ pasado si esta grabaci≤n hubiera caφdo en manos ║ │
│║ del productor que sac≤ æThe soundhouse tapesÆ de ║ │
│║ los Maiden allß por el 79. Decir que es uno de ║ │
│║ los grandes lanzamientos que se han hecho en ║ │
│║ nuestro paφs en mucho tiempo y que, por lo menos ║ │
│║ a nivel underground, estß teniendo mucha ║ │
│║ repercusi≤n. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ En cuanto a la portada y el dise±o del cd no hay ║ │
│║ mucho que decir. La sobriedad de la misma habla ║ │
│║ por si sola. Logotipo y titulo en blanco y negro ║ │
│║ y a correr. Y la contraportada igual solo que ║ │
│║ aderezada con fotos de los integrantes de la ║ │
│║ banda. Un dise±o adecuado para el clßsico sonido ║ │
│║ que nos presentan y que hace que viajemos ║ │
│║ tambiΘn visualmente a la NWOBHM. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ æDonÆt turn off the lightsÆ y æStronger than ║ │
│║ YouÆ son el primer y tercer corte ║ │
│║ respectivamente del trabajo en los que se notan ║ │
│║ un claro regustillo a los primeros trabajos de ║ │
│║ la doncella (Iron Maiden, para los que no hayan ║ │
│║ entendido la analogφa), en cuanto a estructuras ║ │
│║ y lφneas de guitarras se refieren. Es un gustazo ║ │
│║ escuchar como doblan las guitarras De la Chica y ║ │
│║ Chinchilla en estos dos temas. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ æOne wayÆ es la segunda canci≤n del EP que me ║ │
│║ recuerda muchφsimo a alg·n trabajo de Tygers Of ║ │
│║ Pan Tang y que tiene ese toque rockero que ║ │
│║ tienen muchos grupos de la New Wave. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Para rematar, la instrumental æReturn to the ║ │
│║ WitchesÆ CastleÆ. He de decir que me parece una ║ │
│║ jodida maravilla y en la que Vφctor de la Chica ║ │
│║ nos demuestra su capacidad compositiva en ║ │
│║ distintos registros, pasando de partes mßs ║ │
│║ ca±eras en las que se galopan con potencia las ║ │
│║ guitarras hasta pasajes de la pieza totalmente ║ │
│║ oscuros y atmosfΘricos. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Es un trabajo hecho con mucha destreza en el que ║ │
│║ se nota que todos los detalles estßn cuidados al ║ │
│║ mßximo y no se ha dejado nada al azar. Trabajo ║ │
│║ que honra claramente a la NWOBHM y no te dejarß ║ │
│║ de encantar si te gusta este genero musical. Asφ ║ │
│║ que, amantes del heavy metal, bienvenidos al ║ │
│║ castillo de las brujas. ║ │
│║ ║ │

│║ Witchtower began in 2012 concieved as a solo ║ │
│║ project from Vφctor de la Chica, a rock musician ║ │
│║ from Spain with a love of the NWOBHM. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ As with early works from Casey Chaos and Dave ║ │
│║ Grohl he wrote and plays all instruments ║ │
│║ himself. ║ │
│║ However Witchtower is a fully functioning live ║ │
│║ band (as listed above). ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ 'Dont Turn Off The Lights' certainly has that ║ │
│║ old school feel, some solid guitar work going on ║ │
│║ here, the various breakdowns reminicent of both ║ │
│║ Maiden and Diamond Head. ║ │
│║ In fact if it wasnt for the accent in the vocals ║ │
│║ this could easily be london 1981. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ 'One Way' is a slower song, this one immediatley ║ │
│║ reminds me of Tygers Of Pan Tang, its got ║ │
│║ incredible production, i swear the snare drum is ║ │
│║ actually in my head.A solid track. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Picking up the pace again with 'Stronger Than ║ │
│║ You', again Victor is not afraid to wear his ║ │
│║ influences loud and proud, this has all the ║ │
│║ hallmarks of classic White Label era Diamond ║ │
│║ Head.A really strong vocal on this one punches ║ │
│║ through the rich production, then throw in a ║ │
│║ killer guitar solo, awesome stuff!! ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The intro for 'Return To The Witches Castle' is ║ │
│║ a little horror movie pastiche which i was ║ │
│║ expecting to break into some angelwitch or ║ │
│║ witchfinder general, but no, this one has a ║ │
│║ barracuda styled riff running through it with ║ │
│║ that maidenesque guitar style, but then OH YES! ║ │
│║ some early doom creeps in with wind sound fx and ║ │
│║ what sounds like an organ to create some moody ║ │
│║ sounds, then kicks right back into metal. ║ │
│║ A nice track but no vocals, cant help but feel ║ │
│║ that some demonic vocals would turn this one ║ │
│║ into a major piece of work. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ All in all excellent stuff, it has not fallen ║ │
│║ into nwobhm styled thrash, which many bands have ║ │
│║ a bad habbit of doing, this is an authentic and ║ │
│║ well executed tribute. ║ │
