│║ It may be the worst economic time to come from ║ │
│║ Greece nowadays, but musically this country is ║ │
│║ far from bankrupt. One after another the new ║ │
│║ bands seem to sprout from the sunny ║ │
│║ Mediterranean country and one of them is ║ │
│║ Sunlight. Their debut record æMy Own TruthÆ ║ │
│║ however seems to give the impression of doubt ║ │
│║ within the band, which is very much projected on ║ │
│║ the listener. Sunlight themselves claim to make ║ │
│║ a mix of hard rock, heavy and power metal. And ║ │
│║ thatÆs exactly where the trouble seems to begin. ║ │
│║ For those who are fan of hard rock, Sunlight is ║ │
│║ a very good new addition to the spectrum. With ║ │
│║ songs like æBack To LifeÆ, æEastern TrainÆ and ║ │
│║ æEarthquakeÆ there are some very solid hard rock ║ │
│║ tracks found on this record. Only the keyboards ║ │
│║ kind of miss the point on those songs. On ║ │
│║ æEastern TrainÆ is a very fun kind of duel ║ │
│║ between the guitars and the keys, but on the ║ │
│║ other tracks their kind of unnecessary. On the ║ │
│║ other hand there are a couple of tracks that are ║ │
│║ more of the power metal kind. Those are more ║ │
│║ suited for the keyboards than the previously ║ │
│║ mentioned ones. Unfortunately they are a little ║ │
│║ bit too soft for real power metal tracks. Title ║ │
│║ song æMy Own TruthÆ is a softer power ballad, ║ │
│║ comparable to Helloween, and æFollow Your HeartÆ ║ │
│║ is a straight up mix between the hard rock and ║ │
│║ power metal. The album is very well put ║ │
│║ together. Musically all is played pretty solid, ║ │
│║ while the individual tracks are very well ║ │
│║ written. æEastern TrainÆ is a very good hard ║ │
│║ rock song and æWhen I See YouÆ is the ever- ║ │
│║ present ballad. Vocalist Dimitris Giannakopoulos ║ │
│║ isnÆt doing a solid job on the entire album. He ║ │
│║ misses the mark somewhat too often on æStruggle ║ │
│║ For DeliveranceÆ, but he compensates that all ║ │
│║ right with the high pitched vocals on æRockinÆ ║ │
│║ All AroundÆ. It is a pity that these Greeks ║ │
│║ seems to want the best of both worlds on 'My Own ║ │
│║ Truth'. Good rock songs, fat power metal tracks, ║ │
│║ that sounds well, but probably doesn't work for ║ │
│║ most fans of the different genres. Perhaps the ║ │
│║ band would do well to choose for a less varied ║ │
│║ approach in the future and a more unequivocal ║ │
