Microfish are a collective of musicians from the German Baltic Sea
harbour city of Greifswald. The members of Microfish are involved
in diverse projects spanning from Hip Hop (Lenox on Non Plus Ultra)
and Reggae sound systems (mcc with the Al-Haca Sound System) to
Sound&Poetry (Underwater Agents). Christian Schwanz (aka mcc) is
more or less the main motor behind the Microfish project always on
the search for the perfect beat he has journeyed in order to hone
his skills with such musical masters as Richard Whitingham in
Birmingham (Rockers Hi-Fi), Rootsman from Bradford (Third Eye
Music) and Stereotyp (G-Stone) from Vienna who is also featured
here.
The great variety of their musical roots is also reflected on this
EP. Keen, the first track, showcases the vocals of Karen Salewski
(aka Oona), a moody ballad enhanced by the beautiful Rhodes by
Sonar Kollektiv artist Volker "rent-a-keyboard" Meitz.
The second track puts more emphasis on the beat structure combining
both jazzy chords with a reminiscence of a reggae riddim overlaid
with pop orientated vocals.
Now comes the dark side. Christian Schwanz's beat invastigations
brought him to Vienna based producers Stefan M÷rth (aka Stereotyp)
who was happy to share his love for dancehall beats styled with
heavy bass. A collaboration between Stereotyp and Microfish is also
comin' up on G-Stone.
