mondo grosso has had some tremendous success in the past years
releasing several albums of sleek stylish acid jazz and modern r&b
on the for life label. shinichi osawa, through his prolific
production and remix history, set up his home base through a label
on sony music japan called realeyes where he wanted to merge the
pop culture with soulful and jazz-oriented artists and music.
from there he made a successful career for a young japanese artist
named 'bird' which became a well-spoken name amidst the japanese
charts as well as launching the first mondo grosso album for
realeyes after the deal with for life had ended.
this album was called "mg4" (named because it was the fourth album
that comprised of original material) and to great surprise, it was
a tremendous success as it was not only a hit in japan but picked
up in europe for release. with a nice budget, shinichi osawa
(producer of mondo grosso) planned to release a remix album under
his sole direction. handpicking his most favourite production
teams, everything from two-stepped soul to brazilian broken beats
to sonic dub drops are presented here in the same high standard
you'd hope for in a release of this proportion.
remixers respectively include shinichi osawa (osj), wideboys, tom
& joyce, smith & mighty, jazztronik, dj zinc, da lata, ananda
project, blaze and evan lurie.
