It's refreshing to hear someone poke holes in the flabby, one-nation
-under-a-groove feel- goodisms that dominate the house community. But
I'm not sure that Dixon's race-baiting "To all you white suburban kids,
sampling black music all the time, try some rock'n'roll for a change,
you're making black music sound silly, weak and tired and most of all
a stranger" adds anything to the dialogue but a healthy sense of
outrage. Then again, I'm a white kid who grew up safely down I-94 from
the burnt-out city of Detroit Dixon calls home. So like a lot of the
artist's other suburban fans, I'll probably just stick the political
manefestos on my mental to-do list and put on my dancing shoes.
