The latest release on Nina Kraviz' label features a new version of an old
classic. Released back in 1989 by Todd Terry, in its original format, "I Wanna
Go Bang" is a raucous, ravey house track that captured the wide-eyed innocence
of that time. Therefore, it's to Icelandic artist Bjarki's credit that his take
on this classic is respectful but also makes it relevant to modern times. The
beats are stomping and Bjarki's stabs whirr like helicopter blades, while the
robotic vocal has a solemn edge that is indicative of more serious, modern
times. By contrast, Bjarki's "Orange Juice Man" is a balmy slice of ambience,
but comes as a welcome relief after his rambunctious version of the Terry
classic.
