Notes:
Dark Flood hail from Oulo in Finland, and before you
mention Amorphis, I will: Yes, there are similarities
between Dark Flood and their compatriots. Without
sounding exactly the same, they manage to strike the
same epic and melancholy note with the use of
keyboards, guitar harmonies and a mix clean vocal and
growls.
It's not as if this is a rooky band, either. The band
formed under the name of Flood as a quartet back in
1996 and have released three full-length albums as well
as a split and a number of demos. You can tell that
this isn't an inexperienced band. The songs are well-
wrought and powerful, and they carry that ingrained
darkness and melancholy that Finnish people for some
odd reason are so good at conveying. Must be the winter
darkness that does it. The magic comes when it is
combined with an ability to create majestic, melodic
riffs and keyboard soundscapes. Dark Flood has that
touch magic. I like it a lot!
Note: Is it me or does growler Tero Piltonen sound a
lot like David Vincent? Check out the tune Never-Ending
