The second album for Different Drummer from Hanover's Pre Fade
Listening offers more blissfully chilled out grooves to keep the
devotees of the horizontal nodding with approval. They cover a vast
amount of ground in search of the perfect sample. Influenced by
Jamaican dub, Brazilian bossa nova and Balearic beats, they manage
to capture an element of each and weave it in to there own rich
soundscape. This album will take you on a beautiful journey,
horizontally!

No sophomore jinx for Pre Fade Listening. Their wonderful debut
album Way Back Home was a deliciously spacious excursion in true
ambient dub ocassionally detouring into Indian exotica and
intellect. Solarized retains all the positive ingredients of that
album and complements them with a more palpably Caribbean flair. An
altogether sunnier affair (despite its unfortunate cover graphic,
which looks like a microscopic close-up of a filthy hairball), the
Hanover duo showcase the smooth vocal chords of Tikiman (of Rhythm
& Sound fame) on one track, while Dub Syndicate's "Struggle" is
versioned to fine effect elsewhere. When not dabbling in reggae,
Pre Fade Listening loops and weaves its samples and real-time
playing into a laidback aural tapestry guarenteed to bring a warm
glow to the chill room. Among other highlights, "The Mee-Ling
Affair" is a marvel of driven drum programming hearkening back to
"In Dark Trees" from Brian Eno's Another Green World, a record
which may very well be a spiritual touchstone for this group.
