Rae & Christian have been working together for over four years as
recording artists and remixers extraordinaire. After touring widely
with a full band during 1999 & 2000, performing material from their
acclaimed debut album "Northern Sulphuric Soul", it was time to get
back in the studio and set about working on their second album.
They kept themselves busy in between and you may well have heard
some of their recent remixes of Faze Action, Lamb, David Gray,
Bibel Gilberto, Moby or Eagle Eye Cherry.
As festival season came round again, this year's highlights
included Witness (Dublin), North Sea Jazz (Hague) and their first
ever appearance at the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival in
Switzerland. Three special live shows in Edinburgh, London and a
return to Manchester's Ritz venue launched their 'Sleepwalking'
album. The memory hadn't worn off from that wet Tuesday evening in
May of '99 that saw Rae & Christian go head to head with The
Pharcyde and lock out a capacity Ritz.
'Sleepwalking' marked a change in approach for Mark Rae (DJ, beat
merchant and lyricist) and Steve Christian (music maker and
production-wizard). Moving towards more live instrumentation and
more varied songwriting partnerships their sound has taken on a new
shape. A continual process, they refine their combination of hip
hop ethics, traditional song writing and 21st century production
technology . Hear contributions from Bobby Womack, The Congos,
Tania Maria and Kate Rogers. "Sleepwalking boasts a style, and a
charm, entirely its own."- The Guardian
It's still busy times for Rae & Christian -who've just finished
touring Australia performing in Sydney, Melbourne and the Livid
Festival in Brisbane. There was a mix album from Mark Rae
celebrating six years of Grand Central released in May called
Ordered From The Catalogue.
The boys have also just completed another mix album as part of the
Another Late Night series following on from their first ever mix
for Mixmag live. --www.grandcentral.co.uk
After producing and remixing other people's work, it is their turn
to be remixed by the likes of Atjazz, Bushy, Faze Action, Groove
Armada, Only Child, NextMen, Dual Control...sb proudly presents
'Nocturnal Activity', the remix LP of Rae & Christian's 2nd album
'Sleepwalking'. It also features a few R'n'C remixes of their own
tunes and a Parliament cover (formerly available on their mix album
for the Another Late Night Series). This is an advance copy for
yall to enjoy ! --sb
