| "With their adventurous releases on 12" and their warm trip noir |
| -songs with a smoky, jazzy flavour featured on their CD "Sound |
| Effects", Dutch / Belgian duo Sonar Lodge have already harvested a |
| bagful of euphoric reviews in the international press and found |
| itself in charts and playlists of some of the world's leading |
| dj's. (Ian O'Brien, Mixmaster Morris, Gilles Peterson a.o...) |

| Somewhat comparable to the likes of Cinematic Orchestra, Flanger |
| or Ian Simmonds, Sonar Lodge is more firmly rooted in the darker |
| side of leftfield, jazzy dance music, resulting in a unique, |
| melancholic blend of 1970's subtle, acoustic jazz and |
| contemporary, atmospheric electronica. |

| On "Interior Backgrounds", Sonar Lodge presents a world where 4/4 |
| bars, loops and bass-lines are eschewed in favour of organic song |
| structures. With deep, surprisingly catchy hooks and detailed |
| programming they break down barriers between the electronic and |
| accoustic. |
| |
| |
| First track Anaconda; with samples by labelmate Aardvarck, |
| combines swinging, uptempo jazzbeats and analogue electronics |
| underlined with warm, repeating vocal snippets. It is followed by |
| a remix of Nautilus. Labelled as one of the top tracks on the |
| "Sound Effects" CD, this "Fathomless"-version presents a funky 7/8 |
| break that leans forward and lifts off when a thick Moog bassline |
| kicks in, topped by manic horn outbursts. |

| The B-side starts off with I'm dead when I'm not with u; a moody, |
| smoked out nu cinematic jazz piece that keeps it's tension |
| throughout the whole track, only to be maintained on the second |
| track; The rapids; where a wah-wah'd double bass drops a floating |
| line over tight, uptempo acoustic drumming and polyrhythmic |
| organ-arpeggios. |
